Profile
Fellow of St John's College, Cambridge, teaching and researching the history of political thought.
I am an academic at the University of Cambridge. My research focuses on the history of political thought: in 2021 I published Wollstonecraft: Philosophy, Passion, and Politics with Princeton University Press, and I am currently working on a book titled Montesquieu for Polity.
During my career I have lectured on Montesquieu, Rousseau, Adam Smith, Burke, Mary Wollstonecraft, Constant, Tocqueville, Bentham and J S Mill); as well as on political philosophy (morality, politics and punishment, gender, feminist political philosophy). At Cambridge I teach the three History of Political Thought Papers coordinated jointly by the History Faculty and POLIS, and I am an Affiliated Lecturer in the Faculty of History and of Human, Social and Political Sciences.
